Current calls for artists
It is with a bit of sadness that I announce today that the Preslar Gallery will be suspending its operations at the end of June 2019. For the last couple of months, I have been considering whether to discontinue the gallery due to less-than-desirable level of traffic and low sales figures. This season, two shows had to be also cancelled. While the gallery was able to operate at cost thanks to administrative fees assessed on the artists, this situation has become indefensible, and it has not been entirely fair to the artists, either.
It has also come to my attention recently that Estancia Serenova Retreat Center, Inc., which currently hosts the gallery in one of its buildings, is now seeking a new location that is more manageable and closer to Portland. This also means it is likely that the retreat center will go on a hiatus for a period of time, thus I cannot guarantee anything past the end of June.
For these two reasons, I have determined to suspend the gallery programs until further notice, upon the conclusion of the June 2019 exhibit and programming. While it is part of my plan to reopen the gallery at Estancia Serenova's new location, I am also exploring other opportunities for curation and bringing artists together, maybe in partnership with coffee houses or bookstores.
If you are one of the artists scheduled to exhibit later this year, I will be contacting you in the next week or so when I have more details. The call for artists for the June exhibit remains open as scheduled (deadline is May 22), and the second annual Queer Art Party will be held as scheduled (June 14-16).
Thank you all for your support so far, it has been a pleasure for me.

Call for art: Outlaw Identities (for June 2019; deadline May 22, 2019)
The Preslar Gallery at Estancia Serenova, in the woods near Saint Helens, Oregon, will again host the second annual LGBTQ+ Pride and History Month art exhibit and associated events during the month of June (Saturday, June 1 through Sunday, June 30, 2019).
This year’s theme, “Outlaw Identities,” is in response to this past year’s events in politics and in our local communities, in particular, the present U.S. government’s attempts at invalidating and erasing the non-cisheteronormative human existences, an increase in censorship by corporate social media giants, and the resurgence of violent hate crimes in Portland. The theme of this exhibit aims at exploring various ways in which members of the LGBTQ+ communities assert their rights to self-determination, express their personal power, and survive in the contemporary social climate.
