Columbia River Artists on Bikes!

columbia river artists on bicycles

Columbia River Artists on Bikes is group bicycle rides that take artists on a tour of southern Columbia County and its majestic landscape.

This slow-paced, beginner-friendly group bicycle ride takes you to several beautiful locations in the south Columbia County area including Saint Helens. We will stop along the route and enjoy the views and nature while drawing/sketching/photographing and making new friends. While these rides are geared toward artists of all skill levels, it is not a requirement for you to be an artist. The purposes of these rides are to inspire creativity through exploration of beautiful landscapes, as well as to promote wellness and fitness in the artist community.

Advance registration and signed liability waiver are required. You must have a well-maintained and well-equipped bicycle, and a helmet in order to participate. Maximum participants per group: Seven (no exceptions, and no walk-ins -- due to safety reasons). Registration fee (suggested - no one turned away for lack of funds!): $25 per person per each tour, or $50 for all three tours.

The starting point and route will be announced to registered participants only.

Description of each tour:

(Due to the forecast precipitation and thunderstorms on Saturday, Sept. 15, the Scappoose tour has been rescheduled one week later.)

Saturday, Sept. 22: Discover Scappoose -- this tour explores the agricultural lowland of Scappoose and historic downtown Scappoose and the Scappoose Farmers' Market. The route is very flat.

Saturday, Sept. 29: Columbia River Scenery -- this tour takes you along the shore of the Columbia River and makes stop overs at various parks in the area. The route starts from Saint Helens and goes to Warren and back up to Columbia City, and then back to Saint Helens. The route is mostly flat, with a segment that requires you to walk your bike.

Sunday, Oct. 7: Season Finale - Halloweentown Edition -- this will be a short, leisurely tour that focuses on the historic downtown Saint Helens area where films such as Halloweentown and Twilight were filmed. Enjoy the architecture, history, and festivities as the city annually celebrates the Spirit of Halloweentown.

September is the best time for bicycling!

The suggested registration fee is $25 per person per ride (no person is turned away for lack of funds), or $50 for all three rides.

Refund policy: No refunds; in case the event is cancelled due to weather, you will get a registration for another future date. The rides will go on unless the forecast precipitation is above 0.5 inch per hour, or if we decide that weather conditions make the ride dangerous (due to high winds or dense fog).
